T6 Racer Shoe Review

Editor's Review:
I always get nervous when I hear that a favorite shoe is going to be upgraded, so you can imagine my apprehension when Brooks announced that their fabled T5 Racer was being replaced by the T6 Racer.
Fortunately, I had little to fear. The T6 Racer is, without doubt, the better shoe...mostly because Brooks made only minor changes and only to the upper. The sole, the heart of this shoe, is essentially unchanged.
The upper, however, is vastly improved. If you have run in the T5s, you will find the T6s a little more snug, but the main difference is that many seams and potential abrasion points have been removed. The upper was also designed to make this already light shoe even lighter. You get a lighter shoe that is less likely to rub you the wrong way.
To prove this point, I ran yesterday without socks in my T6s. This was my first run of the season without socks, so my feet haven't been hardened yet. The T6s are also fairly new. Both these variables would predict that I wouldn't go far before needing to put on my socks - perhaps only a mile, or two at the most. I managed four miles, and only put my socks on at mile four because by at mile three I started running on a sandy dirt road and the grit of the road was causing some minor abrasion. Before then I couldn't even tell I was running sockless. On a different route, one without lots of sand, I could easily have gone six or more miles. I will definitely consider running the half-marathon portion of a half Iron Man distance race in these shoes, and without socks.
So, in summary, the Brooks T6 is a minor improvement over the already phenomenal Brooks T5: it is lighter, a little more snug, and has a smother upper, while still providing the responsiveness and flexibility of the T5.

Retailer's Description:
Searching for that new PR for any distance up to the half marathon? The T6 Racer is just the ticket. The T6 weighs next to nothing (6.1 oz), feels like an extension of your foot, and provides the right amount of protection to take you the distance.
Note As this shoe is a very lightweight, minimal support racing flat, the vast majority of runners will not find it “enough shoe” for a full marathon. If you have a light frame and a biomechanically efficient stride, however, you may be able to get away with it. |

| Brooks T6 Racer vs. Nike Lunaracer
(2009-08-03) | Rating | I'm glad that HighRunner left the comment about the Lunaracer and I'll tell you why, but first... I've owned the T6 for a few months and have raced a couple 10Ks and 4M races in them. Ultra-light, they breath extremely well, fit like a glove, and provide incredible road-feel all while supplying more cushioning than you'd ever expect from a flat. They're rated for distances of up to a 1/2 and from my experience I'd say that's pretty accurate, but I'd also say that this is not enough shoe for the majority of runners to take to that mark. 10K or 15K, you're flying in comfort and style. Now, with the Lunaracer- as I write this I'm wearing the Lunaracer on my left foot and the T6 on my right, just to be fair, literally. I bought the Lunaracer for longer races over 1/2 marathons. Although this shoe is rated for 5Ks to marathons it would never be my first choice for any race under a 10K. The shoe is very light (5.7 ounces, I believe) and the lunarlite cushioning is superb, but for me took some gettting used to. With all that foam under your feet you are definitely sacrificing a good amount of road-feel. Imagine running across a gymnastics mat. You'll never feel as fast as you would were you running on the track. That said, the shoe has definitely not slowed me down. The fit is snug on the foot, but I found it does not breath well at all. My feet roast in these shoes. The T6, however, has a fantastic mesh toebox that feels more like an extension of your sock than the top of your shoe. From my experience, pound for pound, or should I say 'ounce for ounce', for distances up to 10 or 15K the Brooks T6 Racer sends the Nike Lunaracer back to the moon. | There are other light flats too
(2009-06-09) | Rating | Not to rain on everybody's parade, but there are other ultra-light flats available. I like these shoes, but they aren't my favorite. I prefer the Nike Luna Racer (Write a review) (Reply to this review) |

| Sellar Shoe
(2009-05-17) | Rating | These are absoutly amazing shoes. Their fit is nice and secure, so they have a very responsive feel. The stitching is good, and I expect the uppers will last a long time. The only reason I didn't give the T6's a 5 is because the soles are wearing down rather fast. Maybe that isn't fair, given how light these shoes are, I don't suppose I should expect to get 500 miles out of them. (Write a review) (Reply to this review) |

| Super lite and fast
(2009-04-08) | Rating | I've been training in these as I train for a bunch of 5Ks. You couldn't ask for a lighter racing shoe. You will feel the road when you run in these, but for fast racing and training you won't find anything faster. (Write a review) (Reply to this review) |

| Light & Fast
(2009-03-26) | Rating | A great, light, smooth racing flat. You can't go wrong with these. Very comfortable. If they are like the T5 they won't last too long, but who cares. (Write a review) (Reply to this review) |
